How do passenger types differ in a name entry?

An adult is entered with surname, first name and title. A child also carries an age or date of birth, so the right fare applies. An infant under two usually travels on an adult’s lap, so the infant is attached to that adult’s name entry.

How do I enter adult, child and infant names in Amadeus?

In Amadeus, names use NM followed by the number of passengers. A child adds CHD and the date of birth in brackets. An infant goes in brackets after the adult, with INF, the infant’s first name and date of birth. Add the surname too if it differs.

The idea is the same in all three systems: surname, first name and title, plus extra details for children and infants. Only the command and the way age or date of birth is added change. Use this table as a quick reference before you start a booking.

What should I check before pricing?

Check that each name matches the passport exactly, including spelling and order. Work out the child’s age and the infant’s age on the day of travel, not today. Age rules and fares depend on the airline, so check the price result before you ticket.
